He has been in an adult facility in CA since Dec. 2002. The kid was functionally illiterate, couldn't read and write, has a dysfunctional family who was not there to help him through any of this, and I think that if he had gone to trial his competency to make this decision would have been questioned. I would love to see Juvenile sentencing overhauled, more done to do something to rehabilitate, not throw away our children in adult prisons (adult prison sentence overhaul is long overdue as well).
