Honesty Is the Best Policy

If you lie or, stretch the truth, people will know that you are undependable. Do what you say you can do and show up on-time every-time. If you tell someone you will be there at a certain time then be there at that time. We have all been to that point in our lives when your friend tells you they will pick you up at some time and they don’t show. Or when the Cable Person tells you they will be there anytime from 9 am Monday to next Thursday. Everyone can not stand to change there schedule around for someone that doesn’t show. They will be reluctant to call you. That is if they ever do again. Plan ahead. Take into consideration drive time, walking, traffic, getting coffee, and waiting in the office to be seen. All of these things take time. Use it sparingly.
Going to an interview is the same basic principal. Not showing up to an interview on-time is like telling the owners that you can’t be where you’re needed when they need you. They probably won’t hire you.
When you do get an interview there is a few tips I can give you.
First: Show up ready to work. You will not get the job as a chef if you’re dressed in shorts and a tank top. Be professional to your profession. If you work in an office wear office attire.
Second: Don’t go into an interview after having just smoked a cigarette. You will smell like smoke. Doesn’t matter how many times you rub up against the car freshener. To someone that doesn’t smoke it will repulse them. To someone that smokes it will make them want one, and they will cut your interview short.
Third: No strong odors. (Aftershave, perfume, cologne, or even body order)
No chewing gum. You can’t talk to someone with a mouthful.
Don’t be intimidated. They called you because they think you may be great for the job.
Fourth: You need to get the interview before any of this pertains to you.
Getting the interview is one of the hardest things to do. To get an interview you need a resume. To get a Resume you need to know how to write one. A Resume is an outline of your work experience. It doesn’t need to have the jobs you worked previously. So if you never had a job, you don’t need to worry about not having a great Resume.
I will show you how to write a Resume in my next article.
